Wolfe Tones, playing at home, defeated Skryne in the Div 1 All County A League in Kilberry on Saturday eveinng (24 Oct). This match hinged on the two goals scored by the Oristown side one in either half. With twenty minutes on the clock the scoreboard read four points each. Skryne thought they had a free out for a foul on Martin Mulvany but instead Stephen Shepard picked up the loose ball and blasted to the back of the Skryne net. Tones added another point before the break to leave the half-time score at 1 – 5 to 0 – 4 in favour of the home side.
After the break Wolfe tones posted two more points on 35 and 37 minutes but Patrick O’Rourke got two back for the Skrynemen between on 40 and 42Minutes. With the scores now at 1 – 7 to 6 points Mark Battersby had a glorious chance to close the gap to a single point but his shot came back of the crossbar and the resultant move upfield ended with the ball in the back of the Skryne net making the score 2 – 7 to 0- 6. The home side adde four more points with Skryne picking up three late points from Aidan Tuite, Patrick O’ Rourke and Mark Battersby leaving the final score at Wolfe Tones 2 – 11, Skryne 0 – 9.
