Skryne had six points to spare over Duleek Bellewstown in the Junior A championship in Ashbourne on Sunday. The goal was scored on the fortieth minute by Sean Cassidy who score a goal and two points for the game. Paul McGoldrick got Skryne of the mark after 5 minutes but this was cancelled out two minutes later and Duleek Bellewstown then went ahead in the match after eight minutes. David Ryan levelled matters when he scored after a brilliant solo effort. D/B restored their lead but the younger of the Ryan brothers Donie then got in on the act and posted one of his own with twelve minutes played. Sean Cassidy put Skryne ahead from a free and Vinnie Reilly popped over another to leave the scores at six points to three after twenty minutes. D/B pulled back one but John Morley restored the three point lead for Skryne. D/B had the final say of the half on 27 minutes to leave the half-time score at 0 – 7 to 0 – 5 in favour of Skryne.
The second half was barely on when Cassidy scored his second point. Wing back Adam O’Sullivan and John Morley made it double scores at ten points to five but D/B reduced this with a point on thirty five minutes however, Cian Byrne restored the difference immediately. Then a ball played to the wing was put out over the line by D/B thanks to hard work from Paul McGoldrick and the resultant line ball fell to Sean Cassidy who rounded his man to slot the ball to the corner of the net. This left the score at Skryne 1 -11 to 0 – 6 for Duleek Bellewstown. John Morley made it 1 -12 to 0 – 6 with fifteen minutes to play but strangely this was to be Skryne’s last score. D/B upped their game considerably and posted three further points but could not get the goal that would bring them back into the game thanks to resolute defending from the Skryne backs.
