Under 14 End of Year Report
Under 14 End of Year Report

The under14s had an early start to their 2012 season, they started training the last week in January. The target for them was to represent Meath in the 2012 all Ireland Feile Peil Na Nog  which was in Laois/Offaly this year. Saturday evening the 5th of May we were in the County Final v St Colmcilles, the winners to represent Meath in the Feile.

Skryne had a big task ahead of them, as Colmcilles have a good reputation in past Feiles. But Skryne were not going to be beaten in this game and they got off to a great start with their first point on the board after 30 seconds. Skryne were never behind in this game and went on to win by 5 points, Skryne 1.12 Colmcilles 2.4.
For the first time in the clubs history a Skryne team would represent Meath in the all-Ireland Feile Peil Na Nog.

The final of the U14 championship was played in Pairc Tailteann on Thursday the 31st of May, again Skryne were up against St Colmcilles, for this game the lads from Laytown had their homework done, Skryne played well in the first half and had the advantage at the break. But in the second half Colmcilles were much the better team and the Skryne backs were under pressure for a lot of the second half, there was a bit of hope for Skryne when against the run of play they got a goal but that’s as good as it got. Colmcilles ran out winners in the end 3.14 to 4.6.

The last 15aside competition of 2012 was the summer league, with lads away on holidays it was a good chance for some of our younger players to start with the first team, we had an easy enough run to the final of the summer league where we met those boys from Laytown yet again. This was the 3rd time we played them in finals in 2012. This final was in Skryne on Sunday the 29th July, the U14s were not going to be beaten this time around so they ran out comfortable winners in the end.

Johnny Quinn took the reserve team again this year, they had 7 games in the league stages and competed in every one, it’s tough to have a reserve team and be able to compete with the bigger clubs, when you consider a lot of our reserve players are under 12. At the same time it’s very important that these young lads get plenty of football and it was great to see some of them in the squad that went to the Feile. I would like to thank the club for their support during the year, and all the parents also.
