The Skryne under 14 Boys played the final of the Div1 Championship on Thursday 31st May in Pairc Tailteann against St Colmcilles. This was always going to be a very close game of football. Colmcilles started the stronger of the two going 4 points to no score up. This seemed to trigger the Skryne boys into action. Skryne opened their account when Darren Fox put Paddy Carpenter through on goals where he popped it over the bar. Minutes later the same two combined again, only this time Fox fed Carpenter, and he ran through on goal and the ball ended up in the back of Colmcilles net.
Colmcilles won the kick out after the goal was scored and young James Conlon from Colmcilles went one-on-one with Fiachra Finegan, the Colmcilles supporters would have put money on young Conlon to score but a superb save from Finegan denied young Conlon from a certain goal.
Skryne started to move well with Eoin Smyth and Cian Twomey moving the ball well into Cilles defence, Paddy Carpenter then got through to score his second goal. Minutes later Jason Reddy got a great point from a free, and Colm Doherty added another goal, with Darren Fox slotting over another 3 points before half time. The half time score was Skryne 3-5 Colmcilles 0-7.
When the second half began Skryne were under serious pressure from the word go as Skryne half back line of James Finnerty, Michael Doherty and Darragh Campion worked tiredlessly to stop Colmcilles from running at them. Unfortunately for the Skryne lads Colmcilles managed to get 3 goals in the second half, with Skryne trying desperately to come out from there own defence with the ball. When they did manage to get out and kick the ball along, Colmcilles were playin with a sweeper and he was cleaning up our long ball. Skryne only managed to score 1-1 from the boot of Jason Reddy in the second half. Skryne could not have any complaints as the hungrier team won out on the night with a final score of Skryne 4-6 St. Colmcilles 3-14
