Under 10 Update

Skryne U10’s report for the month of May

Skryne U10’s are entered into the non-competitive Summerhill League. To date they have played 4 matches, and the boys have shown promise that this team will bring plenty of silverware to Skryne in future competitions. Mid-week, every week, we have played a game. Each game is two teams of 11, or two teams of 9. Both teams would be very strong and love to play Gaelic. The manners on and off the field is a credit to the parents. We have always encouraged players to play football, and not to let things get to them if something goes wrong. It is always better to let the football do the talking, and with this group you can be sure of that. Every player in a strong panel of 25 plays very well as part of a team. To date we have played,

  • Trim on the 1st May.
  • Na Fianna on the 9th May
  • Summerhill on the 15 May
  • Dunsany on the 23rd May.

All the games to date have been played at home, and our next batch of match’s in this Summerhill League will be away to Ratoath 29th May, Dunboyne 5th June, Dunshaughlin 12th June & Blackhall Gaels 26th June. These fixtures may be liable to change.

Teams are encouraged to take points when they are dominating any team, and this has been happening a lot! When you have the likes of Niall Finnerty, Shane Smyth, Niall Moreland and Alex Grendon playing midfield they are liable to take points from any angle, and will cover every blade of grass running up and down the field. David Rathbourne is proving to have great potential in defense. Aaron Murray is a great goalkeeper and  a great shot stopper. Alex Curran has only recently moved up to U10’s, and is able to play in goals or as corner back or forward and is doing really well. Alex O Reilly has the height and the strength, and it’s his first year playing with the U10’s alongside Sean Mc Govern & Aaron Clarke. To watch them playing you would think they had played with Skryne GFC since the U6’s. Connor Mc Loughlin’s has a great pace, and this showed in a great game against Dunsany. Gary Browne is a player who will play any position. He has great strength and you can be sure once he has the ball he won’t let it go until he scores or passes to a team mate. Jack Swan who has just moved up to the U10’s has a great vision for the game and for his first year is really standing out. Kian Reddy is very fast, and will score from any angle like his brother Jason, who has had great success with the U14’s. Killian Cahill is progressing really well and has the speed and flexibility to play in any position that he is placed in. Killan Cullen has made a massive improvement and is not afraid to take on any player. Nathan Chawke will play in any position and will always give you 110% every time. Sean and his brother Oisin Keogh are great players and both play well in any position. With two brothers on the one team you can almost see the headlines when they reach senior level. Paddy Mc Enniffe  would run for the day. This is his first year at the U10’s and loves every bit of it. Paddy Wright along with Scott Armstrong are great Defenders. They will mark their men tight and are very alert and first to the ball once it is kicked in towards them from the opposition. Sam Hawes is in his second year with the U10boys. He is a strong defender, and is now also showing great promise at the opposite side of the field finding the back of the net. Alex Bartley is an all-rounder who will play in midfield, goals, defense & forward. He is showing great goal and point scoring ability. Oisin Mc Connell has only recently joined the Skryne boys. Although Oisin has missed the earlier matches and training sessions, he has done really well and will challenge every 50-50 ball. The Future of Skryne football looks very bright with the Minors down to U6’s all

doing really well and there is a lot of talented footballers in the parish. When you are able to compete against the likes of Dunshaughlin, Ratoath, Trim & Navan that has a larger population it really shows how talented our guys are from all age’s.

As managers, we get great encouragement from watching the kids playing and enjoying football, and knowing that they are doing their best even at non-competitive stage. We will have an update on how they do in the next batch of away games later and will keep you posted on the Blitzs. Unfortunately due to poor weather and Communions we haven’t had a blitz for a while but that will change during the month of June and there will be plenty of football again. Thanks to all the parents for your continued support and we will chat to you all soon.

We would also like to thank Declan Browne who was involved with the U10’s last year, and who has helped to train and referee games, along with Martin Curran, Michael O Reilly, Noel Murray and Pat Hawes. We are always looking for help with training, or with the games on match days. If you are interested please just mention it to one of the managers. It is a very rewarding experience to see the boys develop their skills, and to play a part in this.
