Skryne U8s enjoy successful day at Summerhill Finals
On Saturday last the Skryne U8s participated in the finals Day of the Annual Summerhill tournament. Having played home and away matches throughout the summer the participating clubs all came together in Summerhill. On the day Skryne fielded two teams with each team to play three 20 minute matches. Team A opened with a game V neighbours Ratoath A, followed by games against Blackhall Gaels and the hosts Summerhill A. Skryne B played their matches against Summerhill A, Ratoath B and Summerhill B.
Skryne A started really well again Ratoath and recorded two quick points. With excellent goal keeping from Luke O’Brien and some great defending from Josh Grendon, Conor Ward and Rian McConnell the Skryne lads successfully limited the Ratoath attack to just one goal. John Finnerty & James Dardis were in excellent form and managed a numbers of scores each to ensure victory in the opening match. A similar result followed in the 2nd game with James Reeves and Sean McCarthy doing very well in defence and Ciara Smith and Cillian Moss both kicked a number of scores. In their final game the Skryne lads did not let up and with some superb scores including an excellent goal by Ciaran Fox Skryne completed their day on a high
Meanwhile Skryne B opened with a game V Summerhill B and despite a strong finish from the home side Skryne held on for an opening victory. With John O’Regan, Shane O’Connor and Jack Donnelly all strong in defence, the vital scores came from Andrew Nolan and Billy Smith. Their 2nd game was a much tighter affair against a very strong and physical Ratoath team. Despite an excellent effort from Mark Swan, Ciaran Quinn and Andrew Canavan Skryne narrowly lost out. In their final game Skryne B faced Summerhill A and with excellent performances from Ben Armstrong & Jamie Mullen in defence and Charlie Swan and Louis Morris in attack the Skryne lads ran out comfortable winners.
