Navan O’ Mahonys 6-10 Skryne 5-08
Under 16 Summer League, Division 2 – Round 1
Tonight our u16s started our Summer League campaign off with a defeat away to Navan O’ Mahonys by 6-10 to our 5-08. Skryne started very well and after 15 minutes were 1-02 to 0-02 ahead playing some nice football with Frankie Carty getting our goal and a couple of Craig Nolan points. In the next 15 minutes O’ Mahonys upped the tempo and outscored Skryne by 2-03 to 1-02. Skryne’s goal came from the very energetic Padraig Finnerty while Luke Thorpe tagged on the points. Skryne went in at the break only a point behind on a scoreline of 2-05 to 2-04.
The second half was nip and tuck early on but O’ Mahonys managed to grab a few goals at the midway point to leave Skryne 6 points down. More good football and goals from Tommy Carpenter and Jack Dardis along with points from Brian Clarke and Craig Nolan dragged Skryne back to within 2 points of the O’ Mahonys with 10 minutes to play. O’ Mahonys struck the killer blow when indiscipline on our behalf resulted in a goal with just a couple of minutes left.
The lads will leave Navan disappointed as Skryne had their chances to win this game. Best for the blues on the night were Frankie Carty, Sean Byrne, Craig Nolan, Padraig Finnerty and Jack Dardis.
