U12s qualify for 7 a-side finals

By Underage PRO Tue 9th Jun

On Saturday last 6th June, Skryne GFC was one of seven host clubs in Meath for the Regional qualifiers for the U12 7 a-side football competition.  Participating teams were Dunshaughlin, Blackhall Gaels and hosts Skryne.  In blustery conditions Skryne and Dunshaughlin played the opening game.  Matches are fifteen minutes in duration with goals and points counting as one score.  Skryne settled really quickly and with Billy Reilly and Oisin Keogh dominant in midfield Skryne registered 3 scores in quick succession.  With James Mangan and Scott Armstrong playing well in defence Skryne restricted Dunshaughlin to just 2 scores in the opening half.  In the 2nd half Skryne continued to dominate around the middle and good play from John O’Regan and Cain Flanagan saw Skryne win out by 9 scores to 5.

In their 2nd match Skryne played Blackhall Gaels and a win would see them qualify for the finals.  As in the first match Skryne started really well with Cian Reddy kicking some excellent scores.  In defence Cillian Moss and Cathal Lenehan were dominant.  Ahead at half time Skryne kept the pressure on in 2nd half and some excellent play by Sean McCarthy and Daniel O’Keane saw them run out 15-4 winners.

Skryne players on the day were Kian Reddy, Oisin Keogh, Scott Armstrong, Billy Reilly, Cillian Moss, James Mangan, Daniel O’Keane, Sean McCarthy, Cain Flanagan, Cathal Lenehan and John O’Regan.
