Skryne 2 – 18, St. Patrick’s Stamullen 3 – 9
A goal and five points each from both Ian Davis and John Morley were the main reasons for this A league win for Skryne over St. Patrick’s Stamullen. Playing with the aid of the breeze in the first half the home side notched a comfortable lead early on and were a goal and seven points to three points on seventeen minutes. The goal came in the first half when Ian Davis fired home after excellent work by corner back Declan Morley. However St Patricks came to Skryne for more than just an afternoon stroll on a fine Sunday afternoon and on the nineteenth minute found the back of the Skryne net leaving just four points between the teams. Skryne rallied again before half time and posted three more points from Ronan McCabe, Mark Battersby and Ian Davis to leave the half time score at Skryne 1 – 10, St Patrick’s 1 – 3.
Skryne introduced Martin Mulvany after half time and he made an immediate impact with two quick points putting what appeared to be clear water between the teams. However, the East Meath side stormed back with two goals leaving the scores with forty four minutes gone at Skryne 1 – 13, St Patrick’s 3 – 6 and just the minimum separating the teams. John Morley increased this to two, after a foul on Ronan McCabe and a minute later Morley found the back of the net for Skryne’s second goal. St. Patrick’s did manage another two points but these were countered by minors from Morley, Carty, Fox and Davis.
