Skryne Shade it over Trim in Feis cup

By josephobrien Thu 4th Jul

2 – 16

Trim 3 – 11

Three goal Trim came close to causing a major upset against Skryne in the Feis cup competition played on Wednesday evening.  The match was played in perfect conditions in Skryne and for much of the game Skryne were playing catch up against a valiant Trim side.  Skryne had two early points from Mark Battersby and Jamie Jordan before Trim hit back with two of their own.  Trim then proceeded to dominate for the rest of the half and were six points to the good after scoring the first of their goals on 28 minutes.  However the Tara men scored two more points in the period to leave the half time score at 1 – 6 to o – 5 in favour of Trim.

The second half started well for the home side with points from Conor O’ Brien (2) and Mark Battersby.   Trim countered these with two points to leave just a goal in it on 38 minutes.  Brian Davis then got the goal that Skryne needed, with forty minutes played. It now looked odds on that Skryne would get home at a canter.  However, nobody it seemed gave Trim the script and a minute later good work down the left wing saw their forwards get inside the Skryne backs who in desperation conceded a penalty which was very well despatched to the corner of the net despite a valiant effort to stop it from Ian Gillette in the Skryne Goals.  To rub salt into the wound they posted a further point to leave the score at 2 – 9 to 1 – 8.  Skryne dug deep and points from Mark Battersby, Conor O’ Brien (2), Jamie Jordan (2) put them ahead with ten minutes left to play.  Then David McGoldrick struck for their second goal and Conor O’ Brien scored his sixth of the night to leave them five ahead on fifty one minutes.  Again Trim refused to lie down and once again got in behind the Skryne defence to score their third goal.  They made it a one point game on fifty four minutes but two further points from Brian Davis split by one for Trim left the home side with a narrow two point win at full time.

Skryne: I Gillett. D Morley, M. Harrington, D Brennan, N. Lenehan, D McGoldrick (1 – 0), R McCabe, A Tuite, H Rooney, A Carty, M Battersby(3), C O’ Brien (6), B Davis (1 – 2), David Ryan(1), J Jordan (4). Subs: Donie Ryan for Carty, P Fox for Lenehan, C Byrne for McCabe,
