With Skryne Minors after beating Walterstown the lads headed to Duleek / Bellewstown Wednesday 5th with a 7.00pm throw in. The conditions were ideal until it decided to pelt rain before the throw in and left the pitch like an Ice Rink and the ball like a bar of soap. Skryne had the bare 15 players and with Sam Hawes out through injury the game got under way. Skryne started off brightly and Niall Finnerty registered the first score. The game was played at a fantastic pace and with the trusty Alex Curran in goals the lads kept the Duleek side at bay for some time. A break forward from Duleek saw them register there first goal from a passage of play but Skryne certainly didn’t panic. In Defense for Skryne was George Fitzpatrick, Billy Reilly, Kristoffer Kinsella, Jack Dardis, Gary Browne & David Rathbourne who all worked well and broke down the attacks of DB. Skryne were certainly on top in the First half and at the same time there was really nothing in it as DB looked to get there first win of the campaign and Skryne were looking to keep the momentum going. At half time Skryne were only two points up and the rain had just stopped. Skryne regrouped with the management of Philip Kinsella & Dermot Carty, Darren Carty was away due to work commitments. The second half commenced and Skryne started off where they left off. Alex Grendon & Luke Brady worked tirelessly in midfield and gave everthing. Grendon won the throw up for the commencement of the second half and Sean Keogh registering a fine score. About 10 mins into the second half a Skryne players received a red card. Skryne were Four points up and now had to work extra hard. DB had now up there pace and reduced it to three, Skryne didnt panic and everything DB threw at them Skryne replied with an answer. The game was to take another turn when a Duleek / Bellewstown player received a red card also. This now leveled things up and the Forwards of Oisin Keogh, Shane Smyth, Niall Morland, Sean Keogh, James O Brien & Niall Finnerty were enjoying the game left if hard for the DB defenders to close them down. Skryne kept the score board ticking and the defenders worked really hard with midfield tracking back also to give support when needed. With two wins now and based on other results Skryne are now in a comfortable position and with a game in hand have qualified for a Semi Final. Saying that the lads wont lie down against Clan Na Ngael and will look to have three from three.
It was a great game and even though there was two red cards it was far from dirty. Jack Gordon who was the man in the middle and let the game flow as much as possible. Also a Duleek / Bellewstown player received a bad injury and we would like to wish him a speedy recovery. Its never nice seeing a young footballer with great potential being carried off the field.
The final score in Duleek was,
Duleek / Bellewstown 2-10
Skryne 3-13
Well done to the management and players and i have no doubt Liam Tolan would have been very proud of your efforts.
