By josephobrien Sun 7th Jul

Skryne 2 – 18; Dunshaughlin 4 – 9

With twelve minutes left in this A league game played in Dunshaughlin on Sunday it appeared that Skryne would coast home without too much effort.  However, visitors to Dunshaughlin  in the past will know that they are not going to lie down to a humiliation at home ever.  At this stage Skryne lead by more than double scores on a score-line of 2 – 16 to 1 – 7. However three goals and 2 points in the last twelve minutes against two points for Skryne left Skryne hanging on at the end.

Skryne raced into an early lead with points from Jamie Jordan, Brian Davis, Mark Battersby and David Ryan before Dunshaughlin pointed on the seventh minute.  Battersby quickly cancelled out that score then good work by Brian Davis found Alan Carty in space and he blasted to the back of the net to put clear daylight between the teams. Dunshaughlin scored a second but Paddy Fox, Battersby again and two from Jamie Jordan made it 1 – 9 to 0 – 2.  The clock showed twenty minutes gone before Dunshaughlin scored their third.   David Ryan rose high to field a long ball into the forwards and passed to Battersby who kick Skryne’s second goal.  Almost from the kick-out the ball was sent down into the Skryne area and a rush of blood saw the forward dragged down for a penalty which was converted.  Skryne’s rhythm however was not affected and points from Alan Carty and Conor O’Brien gave them a half time lead of 2 – 11 to 1 – 3.

The second half resumed with two quick points for Skryne from Aiden Tuite and David Ryan. Dunshaughlin then began a revival which nearly saw them over the line.  In a ten minute period between the thirty fourth and forty forth minute they scored five points to one for Skryne.  Skryne then pulled further away with points from Battersby and O’Brien bringing the score to 2 – 16 to 1 -8.  However the afore mentioned three goals, one from  second penalty, and two points for Dunshaughlin made the last twelve minutes a nail-biting finish and Skryne were very happy to hear the final whistle at the end.

Final Score Skryne 2 – 18;  Dunshaughlin 4 – 9
