Skryne go down to Summerhill

By josephobrien Sun 16th Mar

While Skryne had a much improved performance and indeed many would say they were the best team on the day, they were still on the wrong side of the result in the A league Div. 1 match played in Summerhill on Sunday afternoon (Mar 16).  Summerhill were first of the mark and had a point on the scoreboard after three minutes.  Three minutes later Paddy O’ Rourke, having kept a clean sheet in Portlaois the previous evening, got Skryne of the mark with their opening point.  On Eight minutes Ian Davis sent over a free from a very tight angle after a foul on Mark Battersby to make it two points to one.  There was then a long interval in the scoring but Paddy O’Rourke sent over a 45 on twenty two minutes and Ian Davis on twenty four minutes added another from a free to make the score four points to one.  Summerhill got one back on twenty five minutes which was cancelled out by Mark Battersby with thirty minutes on the clock.  However, it was Summerhill who brought proceedings to an end with another point on 31 minutes to make the half-time score Skryne 0 – 5 Summerhill 0 – 3.

The home side took control after the break with three points in the first three minutes.  However on thirty seven minutes a long ball into the corner found Mark Battersby who gave a pin-point pass to Kevin Mulvany who netted from close in giving Skryne a two point lead.  This was added to on thirty eight minutes by Paddy O’Rourke.  Skryne now appeared to be in the driving seat.  However, it appears that no-one told Summerhill and they reeled off five points in a row to leave the score, with six minutes remaining, Skryne 1 – 6 Summerhill 0 – 11.  Skryne upped the tempo of the game and posted another point to make it a one point game with two minutes left.  However it was Summerhill who had the final say with another point on sixty one minutes.  Final Score Skryne 1 – 7, Summerhill 0 -12.
