The sun shone bright on Fr McManus Park today as the good and the great from Rathfeigh, Skryne and Tara gathered to celebrate and show gratitude for the wonderful community we live in.
All the fun was had by young and old as they tried out the sports from the many clubs in our area; lawn bowls, pitch and putt, athletics, rounders, soccer, basketball, badminton, GAA and Olympic handball. We had some other craic filled activities with slow bicycle races, ping-pong challenge, tug o’ war and egg throwing! The younger kids were kept entertained by the arts and crafts, balloon modelling and face painting. Our musical highlights were provided by the youth of the parish with the Tara Trad Band and The Amplifiers.
Our bbq masters filled everyone’s bellies with burgers followed by tasty homebakes and washed down with a strong coffee from the Coffee Kick or stronger MiWadi!
The highlight of the day was our two exhibition matches with the Mother’s and Others and Lads and Dad’s throwing shapes and pulling muscles on the football field.
There are too many people to thank but suffice to say that this was a true community effort. An army of people cleaned, cooked, baked, lifted, poured, pumped tunes, shifted, decorated, strimmed and just generally grafted hard to make this all happen. We should mention our sponsors EMERALD PARK, KEPAK, MSC and KERRY FOODS who contributed to make this a success.
The day really showcased the best of our wonderful community and it was great to meet and chat with old and new neighbours. Let’s keep our community strong and let’s look after each other.
