Skryne 3 – 9, Walterstown 1 – 13
Having beaten their neighbours Skryne in the Senior Football championship only a week ago, Walterstown set out to keep the upper hand in this battle of two of the biggest rivals in Meath football. However this time the bragging rights went to Skryne, in a superb match played in almost perfect conditions in Walterstown today (Sunday 19 June). Ronan McCabe, who didn’t feature in last weeks match, was the chief thorn in the Walterstown side with 2 – 1 on the day and laying on a number of passes which ended with points for the Skryne men. As in last week’s match, Albin Crosbie was the chief score getter for walterstown with a total of 7 points for the afternoon. At half-time Skryne trailed at 0 – 5 to 1 – 6. The Walterstown goal came when the Skryne full-back line were badly exposed, leaving Arron McLoughlin with the easiest of finishes for his side’s goal. At this stage, and indeed for some time into the second half, it looked as if the Walterstown men might repeat their win of last week. But then McCabe struck for the first of his two goals. Alan Carty leveled the match and Brian Byrne put Skryne ahead. Then a perfectly weighted pass found Kevin Mulvany inside his marker, and he finished to the net, making the score Skryne 2 – 7 Walterstiwn 1 – 6. Ml Clarke and Ronan McCabe traded points on the 46th minute, but at this stage of the match last week Walterstown struck six points without reply and in this match they scored five. Peter Reynolds, Crosbie with two, Mark McCormack and Alan Reynolds all scored to leave the score Walterstown 1 – 12, Skryne 2 – 8 with 55 minutes gone. However Kevin Mulvany leveled for Skryne before McCabe struck again for his second goal on the 58th minute. Crosbie got a point back for Walterstown but despite 5 minutes injury time being played the Walterstown side could not overcome the deficit.
