Ratoath move to top of Group B after win over Skryne

Premier Cup, Group B – Round 2.
This Group B game was a much tighter affair than the scoreline suggests and Skryne were well in the game up until the 8th minute of the second half when Skryne were unlucky to be reduced to 14 men following an altercation in the Ratoath penalty area. On a night when the ground was very heavy and legs were getting tired, the spare man was to prove to be the difference for Ratoath.
Skryne started off strongest and lead by 3 points to 1 after the first quarter with Kian Reddy, Neil Burke(free) and Seán Cassidy all finding the target. Ratoath took the lead on the 18th minute when their full forward looked to have mishit his effort at a point. His kick instead landed in the chest of their number 13 who shot to the Skryne goal from inside the 6 yard box. Ratoath added a further 3 points before Skryne hit a reply, a point from Jason Reddy in the final minute of the half. Half-time: Skryne 0-4, Ratoath 1-04.

Both teams struggled to find scores in the opening few minutes of the second half and the first real incident came on the 8th minute with the sending off. Ratoath gained the upper hand from then on hitting a point on the 10th minute followed a few minutes later by their second goal of the game which came when a Ratoath player drove a powerful low shot from outside the penalty area on the right hand side of the goal, past keeper Gary Browne who had no chance of saving it. Ratoath added another 3 points to Skryne’s 1 (a pointed free from Neil Burke) in the final quarter to secure an 8 point victory.
Skryne were missing 7 players who lined out in the first round and will hope to see these players return in the Round 3 home game against Gaeil Colmcille.
