Skryne 0-13 Dunsany 0-7
Skryne minors started their new season campaign with a merited 13pts. to 7pts. victory over neighbours Dunsany in Dunsany on Sunday morning.
The tone of the game was set early by the high tempo produded by the Skryne forwards, with Stephen O’Brien and Conor O’Brien both prominent. Stephen notched 3pts. and Conor 2pts. all from play to leave Skryne leading at half-time by 5 pts.to 3. Poor handling in the forwards cost Skryne a more decisive half time lead.
Dunsany, to be fair, put up stubborn resistance and this was to continue during the second half. Two fine saves denied Niall Morley and Conor O’Brien in quick succession but with Neil Burke now improving Skryne kept notching up the points. Dunsany had no answer to the midfield dominance of Tony Kennedy and Capt. Harry Rooney, who drove Skryne on to finish up impressive winners on a 13pts to 7pts. scoreline. Highlight of the second half was a skilful point scored by debutant Cathal Murphy.
Skryne still have lots to improve on but were happy to get the first two league points in the bank.
Scorers : Conor O’Brien 4pts. (2 f), Stephen O’Brien 4pts. Neil Burke 4pts. (1 f), Cathal Murphy 1pt.
Skryne next play Summerhill in Skryne on Friday night 17 February.
