Meath U10 Community Games Football Finals
The Meath Community Games Under 10 football finals were held on Saturday last 26th in Trim GAA gounds. Teams were 11 a-side. Skryne were drawn to play against St.Colmcilles, Dunshaughlin and St.Patrick, Stamullin in the group stages.
Our opening game was against Colmcilles who had won the competition last year. In a very close match Skryne were just edged out by two points. Skryne having played with the aid of a strong wind in the first half, were a point behind at the break. In the 2nd half there was some excellent defending from Matthew Ryan, Ben Armstrong and Ciaran Quinn. Up front Ciaran Fox was narrowly wide with an effort on goal. With the last attack of the game Josh Grendon worked his way through the defence and was very unlucky to see his shot hit the post with the keeper well beaten.
In the second game Skryne played neighbours Dunshaughlin and with the aid of the strong breeze Skryne kicked some wonderful scores. Stephen Corry and Mark Swan were excellent up front for Skryne, but the star of the game was Ciara Smith who scored three goals to give Skryne a comfortable lead at the break. In the 2nd half James Reeves and Rian McConnell were strong in defence and Skryne held out for an excellent win.
The final game was against St.Pats, Stamullen. Skryne missed some early chances in the first half and having played with the strong breeze they found themselves behind by a point at the break. Despite some excellent play by Andrew Canavan and Billy Smith, Stamullen used the wind to their advantage and kicked a number of scores and were ahead by 2 goals at the final whistle.
Overall it was a great effort by this young Skryne team, with most of the panel eligible for this grade again next year.
Skryne players on the day: Ben Armstrong, Matthew Ryan, James Reeves, Ciaran Quinn, Josh Grendon, Andrew Canavan, Mark Swan, Billy Smith, Ciara Smith, Rian McConnell, Ciaran Fox and Stephen Corry.
