LGFA League Division 2 – Round 3

Skryne put in a dominant display to claim a comfortable 0-9 to 0-3 victory over Walterstown, holding a commanding 0-7 to 0-2 lead at the break.  Right from the start, Skryne took control of the game, with their forwards and midfield working in unison to create scoring chances. Ellie Murphy was the top scorer of the night, contributing 0-4 (including a free), while Amy O’Dowd and Abbye Donnelly chipped in with 0-2 each. The forwards benefitted from solid support in the middle of the park, where Annie Ryan and Catriona Keoghan were tireless, breaking up Walterstown’s attacks and ensuring Skryne retained possession.  Despite Walterstown’s efforts, they struggled to break down Skryne’s solid defense. Goalkeeper Colleen Jordan was on top form, and the backline of Hannah Dardis, Niamh Cowley, Ailish Lenahan, and Lizzy Moreland stood firm throughout, ensuring Walterstown had little chance to build momentum. Kate Gibbons and Aisling O’Connor also played pivotal roles, continually tracking back to disrupt the opposition’s advances and provide crucial defensive cover.  By halftime, Skryne had already established a commanding 0-7 to 0-2 lead, with Walterstown finding it difficult to create clear-cut chances.

The second half saw Skryne continue to control proceedings, with their composure in possession and smart decision-making ensuring the scoreboard kept ticking over. Laura Mangan, Sarah Pentony and Fiona O’Rourke were key to maintaining Skryne’s fluid attacking play.  The result was never in doubt, with Skryne running out deserved winners on a scoreline of 0-9 to 0-3. This performance was a testament to their solid defensive unit, clinical attacking play, and overall team cohesion.
