LGFA League Division 2 – Round 2

Skryne put in a dominant performance to defeat Ratoath in their Division 2 league encounter in Fr McManus Park. The team showcased excellent teamwork going forward and coupled with a solid defensive display throughout the game, they ran out convincing winners.

From the outset, Skryne controlled the game, with Ellie Murphy leading the scoring charge. Murphy was in fine form, registering 6 points in the first half, 2 of which came from frees. Alongside Murphy, Laura Mangan contributed a point, while Catriona Keoghan and Fiona O’Rourke both added a point each to the scoreboard.

A standout moment came in the 20th minute when Amy O’Dowd scored a fantastic goal. Starting from midfield, O’Dowd passed to Murphy, then received the ball back from Catriona Keoghan. She made a powerful run towards the goal, unleashing a strong shot that rattled the back of the net.

The Skryne backline was solid, with Niamh Cowley producing several excellent high catches, while Ciara Cowley and Emer Clarke made critical interceptions. The half-forward line, including Sarah Pentony, Abbye Donnelly, and Fiona Mahon, played a crucial role by winning key balls in the middle of the field and setting up scores for the forwards.

By halftime, Skryne had built a commanding lead of 1-9 to 0-1, with Ratoath finding it difficult to find a way past Skryne’s well-organized defense.

Skryne didn’t take their foot off the gas in the second half. Amy O’Dowd added a goal and a point to her tally, while Ellie Murphy continued her excellent form with 5 points (2 from frees). Sarah Pentony and Abbye Donnelly also contributed, with Pentony scoring a point and Donnelly scoring a brilliant goal after a powerful run.

Laura Mangan and Lizzie Moreland were both instrumental in extending Skryne’s lead, with Mangan adding two points and Morland contributing a point.

Skryne’s half-back line of Morland, Kate Gibbons, and Aisling O’Connor were in complete control throughout the game, consistently pushing forward and delivering excellent passes into the forward line. Their work rate was complemented by the tireless midfield pairing of Annie Ryan and Catriona Keoghan, who won the majority of the battles in midfield, keeping Ratoath on the back foot throughout.

The goalkeeping from Colleen Jordan was another highlight, with her excellent kickouts ensuring Skryne maintained dominance in the middle of the field. Jordan also made several key high catches in front of her goals, thwarting any Ratoath attempts to break through.

The subs used were Megan Cowley, Alannah Cooney, Hannah Dardis and Caoimhe Govern all of whom made valuable contributions when the came on.

A strong display from the entire team in their first competitive game of 2025, Skryne will look to build on this performance in the coming games.
