Convincing win for Skryne Ladies

Skryne 2-13 St. Ultans 1-08

Kepak Meath LGFA Junior A Championship. Round 1.

Skryne Ladies Junior A team got their Championship campaign off to a great start with a convincing win over St. Ultans.

Skryne had a very strong start and some great scores from Fiona Mahon, Ciara Smyth and Roisin McManus saw the girls 0-6 up at the first water break!

The Skryne defence were impenetrable in the first half and the full back line of Ciara Cowley, Eimear O’Neill and Steffi Finnegan quashed any threat posed by the opposition. Goalie Rachel Whelan made some fantastic saves and the St. Ultan’s girls found it impossible to get on the score board before half time. The link up play and passing between the Skryne forwards was fantastic and further scores from Amy O’Dowd, Catriona Keoghan and a brilliantly taken penalty from Sophie Finnegan left the Skryne girls with an impressive half time lead- 2-10 to 0-0.

From the start of the second half St. Ultan’s came back a the Skryne girls and began to chip away at the Skryne lead. The midfield pairing of Niamh O’Brien and Aisling Bowens worked tirelessly in defence and  covered huge ground when Skryne were attacking. The work rate of the Skryne half back line including Nicola O’Reilly, Lisa Browne and Samantha Clarke was tremendous throughout the game and they were instrumental in many of Skryne’s attacking plays. Ellie Murphy and Caragh Conway were great additions to the Skryne team when they came on in the third quarter.

Despite the second half comeback from the St.Ultan’s girls, Skryne never looked in trouble and finished the game leading by 8 points.
