Skryne overcame Summerhill in this JFC game played in excellent conditions in Dunshaughlin this evening. Skryne began the game as complete outsiders in this competition and after the first five minutes of play this seemed to be the case as the Hill raced into the lead scoring 1-2 without reply.

But then the Blues settled down and with a good mix of youth and experience playing some excellent football battled back and by half time were on level terms 1-4 each. The goal coming almost on half time was as good a team goal as you are likely to see in any grade of football. Some of the onlookers compared it with Kevin Foley’s winning goal for Meath against Dublin in 1991. It came all the way from Des McAvinneys kickout to Darren Fox and then followed a number of accurate passes which included Jason Fox, Sean Cassidy, Allan Carty, Eoin Smyth and Declan Mulvey before Darren Fox again got on the end of the move he had started to finish to the net. What a goal!!!

Skryne scored first in the second half to lead for the first time in the match but then it was Summerhills turn to fight back and they went in front once again with three good points. Another well worked goal scored by Eoin Smyth gave Skryne the edge and a lead they never relinquished.

This was a superb team effort from the Blues and it might seem unfair to single  some people out for special mention but I don’t think anybody can complain if I  say how impressively Eoghan Greene, Timmy Lennon and Dermot Brennan played over the hour.

As previously stated every Skryne player can be proud of their contribution to this victory which keeps their hopes alive in this competition.

Skryne – Des Mc Avinney. Shane McEnroy, Eoghan Greene, Timmy Lennon. Dermot Brennan(0-1), Ronan McCabe, Darren Fox (1-0). David Lynch, Michael Doherty. Declan Mulvey, Eoin Smyth (1-1), Jason Fox (0-1). Sean Cassidy, Allan Carty (0-3), Paddy Carpenter (0-2).

Subs used – Jack Conroy and John Quinn (0-1).
