Tones Too Strong for Skryne
Wolfe Tones 2-16 Skryne 1-09
Junior A Football Championship. Group C, Round 4
Wolfe Tones proved to be much too strong for Skryne in this Junior Football Championship match played in ideal conditions in Walterstown this evening (Friday). While the final score may be a little unkind to Skryne as a number of Wolfe Tones points tally came in the last ten minutes when some of the Blues players had thrown in the towel. Add that to the fact that they fielded once again without the injured pair of Declan Morley and Ronan McCabe, the holidaying David Carroll and emigrated Barry Clarke and Paddy Doherty. Even in this match bad luck seemed to follow this team as once again the injury jinx raised its ugly head when both John Morley and Oisin Gryson (after a very dubious tackle) had to retire early.
Having said that Wolfe Tones were the better team in this game and their talented forwards had the Skryne defence in trouble from the Throw In. Early in the first half they led by 2-3 to 0-2 but to Skryne’s credit they fought back and a good goal finished by Frank Carty had them back in the game. It was at this stage in the proceedings that Oisin Gryson was forced to leave the field and with him went the much needed physical power Skryne possessed in the middle of their defence. At half time Tones led 2-6 to 1-5.

The second half proved difficult for the Blues and scores were hard to come by. Three pointed frees and one from play from substitute Colm McLoughlin is not enough to be competitive in any game.
All 21 players who took part in this game tried their best and with three games to go all is not lost and this team will stick together to maybe resurrect something from this season.
