JFC: Skryne loose out narrowly to Bective
12 June 2011
Bectice 1 – 9
Skryne 2 – 5;
Played in a very wet conditions this game looked over at half time when Bective went in 1 – 7 to Skryne’s 1 point, having played with the help of a very strong wind.
In fairness to Skryne some of their stronger players were held in reserve for the Senior match which followed. The match was somewhat spoiled by the official who baffeled the large crowd with some of his decisions. However that is not to take away from the first half performance of Bective who used the wind to good effecty with scores from Mark Mulhall, (3 pts), Mark O’ Brien who got their goal, Paul Lyness, Brian Kerins, kevin McConnell and Brian Cantwell, all of whom got of the scoreboard. Skryne’s only point in this half came from Darren Carty.
Given the conditions and the scoreline many teams would haven given up at this stage but theSkryne men are nothing if not game for a challenge. Brian Smyth got their second point, then Darren Carty scored a magnificient goal on the 45th minute to leave just five points between the teams. Then Smyth score a goal and a point leaving only the minimum between them. Mark Mulhall got a point back for Bective making it a two point game again, at 1 – 8 to 2 – 3. Smyth was on target again before Kevin reilly on the 60th minute got the equalizer. However a win was not on the cards for Skryne when Bective were handed a soft free in injury time on the 13 mtr line and Brian Cantwell was not going to miss from there.
Skryne can be proud of the performance in tough conditions.
