Seneschalstown Edge Out Skryne
Seneschalstown 0-14 Skryne 0-10
JAFC Group C – Round 6
This Junior A Championship match played in Simonstown on Sunday morning last was a very closely contested game throughout.
Skryne had the better of the first half while Seneschalstown more or less dominated most of the second period. The slight breeze did not hinder or help either side during the game played in bright sunshine.
Skryne played towards the scoreboard end in the first half and Craig Nolan and Allan Carty got the blues off to the perfect start with two long range points from play. Skryne continued to dominate the half and should have been further ahead at the break as they dropped some score attempts short and Frank Carty shaved the post with a goal chance after some great play from the Carpenter brothers outfield. Skryne were still in front at half time 0-7 to 0-4.

The second half was a completely different picture and the Yellow Furze men scored five points without reply to lead for the first time in the match by two points – 0-9 to 0-7.
Skryne never gave up and fought back to level terms at 10 points each as the game edged towards the final whistle. With the game in the ‘melting pot’ the Blues were awarded a 14 yards free straight in front of the Seneschalstown goalposts which would definitely put them ahead and almost certain victory. But then disaster struck as the Referee decided to throw the ball ‘up’ after some indiscretion by a Skryne player before the free could be taken.
Seneschalstown gratefully accepted the reprieve and from the throw in raced upfield and scored the all important point to grab victory from the jaws of defeat. As the dispirited Skryne men’s heads dropped Seneschalstown proceeded to add three further points in injury team to leave the final score at 0-14 to 0-10.
