Emphatic win for Skryne in Stamullen

By josephobrien Sun 9th Jun

Skryne 2 – 14; St Patrick’s 0 – 8

Just over a week from their Senior championship success over St Patricks, Skryne recorded an emphatic win over the same opposition in Division one of the A League in Stamullen on Sunday morning.  Skryne lined out without Paddy O’Rourke or Ciaran Lenehan who are competition tied due to their involvement with Meath Seniors in Aughrim in the forthcoming game on Saturday 15 June. Skryne opened the scoring with a Paddy Fox point after two minutes but St. Pats cancelled this on four minutes. David McGoldrick restored the lead from a 45 on seven minutes but again this was cancelled out with eleven minutes gone.  Skryne then took hold of the game and scored a goal and seven points to a solitary point for the opposition.  The goal came from Mark Battersby who latched on to a well delivered cross from Fox to strike the ball home.  Mark, who was man of the match, scored a total of 1 – 2 for the hour but was instrumental in providing many of the passes which resulted in scores for Skryne forwards. Points in this phase were scored by David McGoldrick (2, 1F), Cormack O’Briern, Kevin Mulvany, Ian Davis  and Brian Davis (2).  The half time score read Skryne 1 – 9, St. Patrick’s 0 – 3.

From the second half throw-in Ian Davis raced through to further extend the lead.  Battersby scored the first of his points two minutes later and with 35 minutes on the stopwatch St. Patricks pulled one back.  Paddy Fox made it 1- 12 to 0 – 4 on 36 minutes. St Patrick’s staged a small come-back over the next ten minutes of the game and scored three points without reply to narrow the margin to a goal and five.  However with 50 minutes on the watch Ian Davis sent in a pile-driver from about thirty meters out and gave the goalie no chance.  This put an end to any hope the East Meath side had of a come-back and they only managed one further point for the game.  Skryne however posted a further two to leave the final score Skryne 2 – 14, St Patrick’s 0 – 8.

Skryne: F. O’Rourke, D. Morley, M.Mulvaney, N. Lenehan, D. McGoldrick (2), M. Harrington, R. McCabe, A. Tuite, H. Rooney, P. Fox (2), M. Battersby (1-2), C O’Brien(1), K. Mulvaney (2), I. Davis(1-3), B. Davis(2).
