In what turned out to be one of the most competitive matches of the year, Skryne under 16’s went out of the Summer League to a strong Wolfe Tones side on Wednesday evening in Skryne. This semi-final had everything which is good in football and was played in a most sporting atmosphere. The Skryne boys were two points up by the sixth minute, both scored by Jason Reddy. The Oristown side then cancelled these out within a minute. Darren Fox, Darragh Campion and Jason Reddy tagged on three quick points to leave them three ahead by the twelfth minute. Wolfe Tones pointed again on thirteen minutes but Eoin Smyth and Jason Reddy stretched the Tara side’s lead to four points by the twentieth minute. However, it was Wolfe Tones who finished the half the stronger with four unanswered points to leave the half time score at 0 – 7 each.
Wolfe Tones were first of the mark immediately from the throw in for the second half. Skryne then had a purple patch when they scored a goal and three points without reply between the thirty seventh and forty seventh minute to go five points ahead on a score line of 1 – 10 to 0 – 8. The goal came from the boot of Paddy Carpenter with points from Darragh Campion, Eoin Green, and Jason Reddy. However they only managed a further three points while Wolfe Tones scored 2 – 4 to end the game with a two point lead on a score line of Skryne 1 – 13, Wolfe Tones 2 – 12.
