Skryne Sink Simonstown!
Simonstown Gaels 1-11 Skryne 1-19
B League Division 1 – Round 8
In a low key match played tonight in Simonstown, Skryne overcame their hosts on a scoreline of 1-19 to 1-11. As Simonstown were already safe from relegation this match was more important to Skryne who Needed the points to remain in this division of the B League.
On a fine evening, ideal for football, the teams were evenly matched for three quarters of this game with no more than three points between them at any time. It was at this stage of the match that Simonstown seemed to run out of steam and scoring for them became much more difficult. The fact that they had no substitutes to bring on whereas Skryne had the luxury of being able to introduce five fresh pairs of legs helping them to outscore their opponents by 1-9 to 1-0 in that last quarter.

Felim O’Rourke continued his recent scoring spree by adding 1-3 to the scoresheet late in the game. Veteran John Quinn also chipped in with two points and another of the older brigade Allan Carty also scored two points in that crucial period of the game.
To compliment this scoring sequence the defence stood firm and the Simonstown goal was just a consolation effort and had no bearing on the Blues victory.
All in all the six Skryne forwards plus one midfielder and three substitutes all scored in the match making it eleven different players overall which suggests a good team performance on the night.
