FAIR RESULT AS SKRYNE AND SENESCHALSTOWN DRAW.
Skryne 3-09 Gaeil Colmcille 2-12
B League Division 1 – Round 4
With McManus Park under repair this B League Div 1 match was played on Skryne’s second pitch (across the road) and turned out to be an evenly matched affair with neither side deserving to lose. The pitch itself was in very good condition considering the amount of use it got recently and the amount of rain that fell over the last week.
The game was played with no quarter asked or given but in a very sporting way even though the Referee was busy dealing with lots of minor incidences. Skryne had two players dismissed as a result of black card offences while Seneschalstown lost their player to a straight red card.
The match started at hectic pace for second team football with lots of genuine effort from both sides. Both scored early points and then Paddy Fox raced through the Furze defence and blasted an excellent goal for Skryne but immediately limped off with a dead leg. He was soon followed by James Hegarty with an ankle injury. To compound Skryne’s troubles Aidan Tuite was then black carded and it looked like the Blues were in for a difficult night when Seneschalstown took advantage of all this and led by double scores at half time 2-8 to 1-4. Seven of their eight points were expertly taken from play with one of their goals coming from the penalty spot.

Despite losing three of their best players Skryne rallied in the second half and two quick fire goals from Sean Cassidy and Craig Nolan had them right back in the game. A Felim O’Rourke free kick bound for the top corner of the net was just tipped over the bar to give Skryne the lead with time running out. But Seneschalstown had the final say and equalised late into injury time to leave honours even and a fair result in the end.
For Skryne to lose 3 players early on and get this result with an inexperienced team bodes well for the next few games and all 18 players used did well in a great team effort.
