Alisha Jordan Fundraising Night

By josephobrien Sat 18th Aug

As I write this it is the morning after the night before and what a night it was.  The support shown for Alisha was phenomenal with Skryne people of all ages in the Palace to do their bit.  Even someone of my years would have felt at home there as I was not the only one of fifty plus years.  Of course many of the younger generation think they invented the place and I was asked on numerous occasions if it was my first visit to the Palace.  No I politely told them I was here many times long before they were  born and saw many a classic Western there.  Films like Soldier Blue or the Good the Bad and the Ugly and many more.  Even major weepies like Love Story and Madame X.  God those were the days and if the film did not show much prospects of being any good you could always watch some of the off-screen action and you had any amount of activity to watch there.   However some things have not changed much in the Palace over forty years with many of the same old codgers still trying their hands at being young. God love them will they ever learn.

I hadn’t intended to do a piece on the event but had my arm twisted by some of the players, principally Shane McEnroy and Liam O’ Rourke.  Told them that I would do so but it would cost them for me to keep my mouth shut with regard to what they were up to.  They agreed, now is it any wonder my head feels like it does today.

As for the event itself we would have to consider it a complete success.  Meeting some of the Jordans there I know they were impressed.  The ladies committee with Senan, Mary, Liam, Caroline, Colm  and the rest can take a well earned bow and they deserve all the praise we can place upon them this morning.  They have turned what started out as a tragedy for Alisha and her family, into something our Club and Parish can be proud of.  Since coming to Skryne  one thing I have always noticed is the way this community will rally round when they are needed.  This is a club and a Parish which the Skryne people can take justifiable pride in.  I know I do.  I’ll finish this piece of by wishing Alisha a speedy recovery and hope to see her back home and in a Skryne jersey soon.

Now where’s the Panadol.
