High Scoring Win For Skryne in Piltown
St. Colmcilles 1-18, Skryne 4-12
A League Division 2 – Round 6
Skryne travelled to Piltown for this A League Div. 2 match and came away with the spoils after victory over St. Colmcilles by 4 points. This was a hard earned win for Skryne and the Cilles can surely feel a little unlucky after scoring 1-18 which would win most games.
On a lovely calm evening – ideal for good football – both sides began well and were evenly matched, at least on he scoreboard, throughout the first half at the end of which Skryne had edged in front when Adam O’Sullivan put Eoin Smyth through for a well worked goal. Although the same player had missed an opportunity for a goal early in the game he was not alone in this as at least two other goal chances were spurned by the Skryne forwards. Apart from the goal chances Skryne missed a number of frees and point attempts from play. In this half alone they kicked 9 wides including 2 scorable free kicks.
Half time – Skryne 1-8 St. Colmcilles 0-8.

The game was won early in the second half when man-of-the-match Bryan Davis crashed home two magnificent goals after carrying the ball straight through the heart of the Cilles defence. In between these two goals St. Colmcilles had one of their own but the Blues had the impetus now to go and win the game and some good combination play going forward resulted in another goal finished to the net by Jason Fox.
The downside to this result was the fact that Skryne kicked 16 wides over the course of the match including 6 frees from inside 30 yards. They also conceded too many frees at the other end and St. Colmcilles scored 9 points of their total from placed balls.
Apart from Davis Skryne were also well served by Adam O’Sullivan, Aidan Tuite, Paddy Fox and Darragh Campion in a game where they had 10 different players on the scoresheet.
