Simonstown on top in Skryne
Skryne 1-15 Simonstown 3-13
Playing their 3rd adult match in as many days proved a bridge too far for Skryne as their visitors Simonstown Gaels went home with all three points from this A League Div 1 tie played in Skryne last evening – Wednesday. This was a high scoring entertaining match played on a beautiful evening on the excellent Skryne pitch. Skryne began the match with Mark Harrington and Allan Carty playing their 3rd game in 3 days and David McGoldrick and substitute Felim O’Rourke playing their 2nd in 2.
Once again the concession of goals was the Blues downfall and three more in the first half of this game left them trailing at the break by 3-8 to 1-7.
Skryne set out in the second half determined to claw back the Gaels seven point lead and midway through had it back to a three point game. Four unanswered points, three from Mark Battersby and one from centre back Mark Jordan left just one score, albeit a goal, between the sides to set up an tight finish. But then Simonstown settled and tagged on some very good scores of their own to run out winners by four points. As was the case in the B League match between the same two sides at the same venue recently, nearly all the scores came from play which contributed to an exciting game of football played in the right spirit. Simonstown scored an impressive 2-12 from play while Skryne almost matched that with 1-12 and Ciaran Lenehan in a new position for him, at centre forward, contributing 1-3.
