Another Bad Night for Skryne
Skryne 0-07 Simonstown 3-12
A League Division 1, Round 9
Another excellent night for football but another disastrous night for Skryne as they were well beaten by Simonstown. Both sides were again short a number of players for different reasons but the Navan men coped with this problem much better than the Blues. There were lots of misplaced passes from both sets of players – some of which could be put down to the closeness of the teams colours – but more often than not it was just poor play or bad ball handling skills. Skryne were particularly guilty in this department and when you add in some poor finishing it could only result in one thing – defeat.
Defensively Simonstown were very strong and forced the Skryne forwards into shooting from difficult angles or from too far out resulting in a high number of ‘wides’ which overall contributed to their downfall. Simonstown led by five points at half time but Skryne had four chances of scores just before the break and didn’t manage to get any on target which again did not help their cause. Half time score Skryne 0-3 Simonstown 1-5.

The second half was a replica of the first with Simonstown finding scores easier to come by, particularly late on when, sadly, Skryne seemed to have lost the will to win. There were a few bright spots for the Blues – one of these being the penalty save by Felim O’Rourke in the first half. In fact he had to save it twice as Referee Cormac Reilly insisted it being retaken due to an infringement by a Skryne defender. The accuracy of Neal Burke, he scored five points, (four from frees) and the determined effort of Aidan Tuite at midfield also caught the eye. Once again the form of Eoghan Greene was the highlight in defence where he was ably assisted be Dermot Brennan and Timmy Lennon.
Skryne – Felim O’Rourke. Timmy Lennon, Mark Harrington, Eoghan Greene. Declan Morley, Niall Lenehan, Dermot Brennan. Aidan Tuite (0-2), Michael Doherty. Darren Fox, Paddy, Fox, Niall Morley. Neal Burke (0-5) Allan Carty, Jason Fox.
