Another defeat for Skryne in A League
Ratoath 3-08 Skryne 0-06
A League Division 1 – Round 5
This game in Div 1 of the A League in Ratoath was almost a victim of the weather when Referee Richie Morris took the players off the field just as he was about to throw the ball in. The snowstorm made visibility almost impossible and for Skryne they probably wish it stayed snowing and allowed them stay in the dressing room.
Even allowing for the fact they were well short of a full team this performance left a lot to be desired and the Blues were well beaten on the day. Ten points down at half time 2-5 to 0-1 with just a Mark Battersby score to show for their efforts.

The second half began with Skryne improving and when Paddy O’Rourke scored the first 3 points early in this period it looked as if they could muster a challenge but that was as good as it got. A further 2 points was all that was added in the last 20 mins while Ratoath tagged on a further 1-3 to leave 11 points between the sides at the finish.
Ian Gillett could hardly be blamed for any of the goals which ultimately were the main difference between the sides. Mark Harrington did his best to stem the tide in an overworked defence while Eoin Smyth was Skryne’s best player on the day. Not enough fast ball went to the Full forward line even though Paddy O’Rourke seemed to have the measure of his direct opponent and Mark Battersby was ‘fouled’ on a number of occasions but got no sympathy in the way of frees from the referee. It was encouraging to see Paddy Carpenter back in action after 12 months out with a serious ankle injury.
