Close encounter in Skryne
Skryne 1-12 Navan O’ Mahonys 2-10
A League Division 1, Round 13
An excellent game of football played in very windy conditions in McManus Park Skryne resulted in relegation for the home side. Defeat put the final nail in Blues coffin irrespective of results elsewhere.
The match was close for most of the hour but O’Mahonys got away to the better start and led by 1-2 to 0-1 after six minutes. A well worked Skryne goal involving Patrick O’Rourke and Conor O’Brien and brilliantly finished by Brian Davis brought Skryne right back into the match and from then to the final whistle it was nip and tuck. Even though Skryne had a slight advantage from the difficult strong breeze in the first half O’Mahonys led at the break by 2-06 to 1-06.

As it turned out both teams played slightly better against the wind when playing into the Scoreboard end and Skryne shaded the second half scoring by six points to four.
A feature of the second half was the superb free taking accuracy of ‘Big P’ from all angles and distances against – as already stated – a very difficult breeze. Unfortunately the Skryne forwards could not convert the overall midfield supremacy of Harry Rooney and Aidan Tuite into enough scores to win the match, particularly in the second half. Having said that the tigerish defending of the Navan men made life extremely difficult and forced the Blues into rushing their shots and resulted in the inaccurate shooting.
Apart from those already mentioned Skryne had good performances from Mark Jordan, Eoghan Greene and Niall Lenehan.
