Huge score in Dunboyne

A League Division 1 – Round 12

In a very high scoring A league game in Dunboyne Skryne again failed to secure any points from this match which plunges them deeper into relegation trouble.

To score 4-14 and still end up losing the game is a strange result to say the least but at one stage in the first half with the score at 3-6 to 0-3 in Dunboyne’s favour most Skryne people felt like heading for the exit gates. While a 3 goal defeat is very disappointing it could have been so much worse, yet some of the goals were a result of bad defending or basic errors. As stated scoring 4-14 in any game suggests you should win that game but if you concede 7 goals you cannot expect to win any match. The score at half time in this match was Dunboyne 3-8 Skryne 1-6 with the Blues goal coming from a penalty scored by Patrick O’Rourke who unfortunately blazed another spot kick high and wide.

Skryne began the second half very promisingly with Adam O’Sullivan shooting a good point and O’Rourke adding his second goal to narrow the gap but then Dunboyne replied with two quick fire goals of their own and the game was as good as over. To their credit Skryne battled on with some good scores but the concession of goals proved to be a bridge too far and the Dublin border side ran out easy winners. Apart from Rourkey scoring 2-6 the only positive outcome of the night was the excellent performance of Eoghan Greene in defence for Skryne.

Skryne – Felim O’Rourke. Stephen O’Brien, Ciaran Lenehan (0-1), Eoghan Greene. Thomas McKeown, Niall Lenehan, Adam O’Sullivan (0-1). Aidan Tuite, Harry Rooney. Eoin Smyth, Darragh Campion (0-1), Brian Davis (1-1). Conor O’Brien, Patrick O’Rourke (2-6), Mark Battersby (0-2).

Subs used – Niall Morley (0-1), Dermot Brennan, Paddy Fox (0-1), Mark Harrington (1-0).
