Skryne secure Division 1 status
Moynalvey 0-12 Skryne 2-15
A League Division 1 – Round 12
Skryne travelled to Moynalvey this evening needing a win to guarantee their place in Division 1 next year, a win which would also condemn Moynalvey to the dreaded drop to Division 2.
Skryne flew out of the traps and had 1-06 on the scoreboard inside the first ten minutes without a reply from Moynalvey. Ian Davis fired home the goal after been put in by Ciaran Lenehan. Skryne despite their dominance failed to trouble the scoreboard again until the 25th minute when Paddy O’Rourke pointed a free, by which time Moynalvey had tacked on their only 3 points of the opening half. Ciarán Lenehan added another point immediately before Jason Reddy slipped in behind the Moynalvey defence and picked up a brilliant layoff from Paddy O’Rourke before showing coolness personified when dispatching low past the onrushing Moynalvey keeper for Skryne’s second goal. Two further points, one each for Jason Reddy and Ciarán Lenehan saw Skryne lead at half-time on a scoreline of Moynalvey 0-03, Skryne 2-10. Moynalvey also lost their centre back to a red card a minute before the half ended which didn’t help their cause.

Skryne had a healthy lead at half time and after a poor opening half from Moynalvey, they would have been forgiven for thinking a winning outcome was inevitable. However, Moynalvey were not willing to go down without a fight and despite the mountain they had to climb they battled well in the second half and moving Mark O’Sullivan out to midfield paid immediate dividends as he went on to score 5 points for the Moynalvey men who outscored Skryne by 9 points to 5 in the second half. Despite this, Skryne never looked in any real danger of losing this game even after losing Harry Rooney to a second yellow midway through the half and ran out convincing winners on a scoreline of Moynalvey 0-12, Skryne 2-15.
Ian Davis and Jason Reddy were on fire up front in a dangerous Skryne forward line with Ciarán Lenehan also chipping in with a fine performance which saw him bag a hat-trick of points. Stephen O’Brien, Darren Fox and Michael Doherty were excellent at the back in what was a good team performance from the Skrynemen. Skryne will face O’Mahonys in the last game of the League but can go into this game with nothing to lose as they have now secured their status in the top tier for another year.
