Meath Hill 1-11 Skryne 1-16
Skryne ran out easy winners in Meath Hill this evening but unfortunately their efforts will count for nothing as they were unable to field a team of 15 players as required under the rules of the League. It was a case of what might have been as the teams opted to play a 13 a side game in which Skryne produced some fine football, particularly in a first half where they scored 1-10 to Meath Hill’s 1-03.
Meath Hill opened the scoring with a point in the third minute. Skryne followed up with one of their own. Meath Hill took the lead again on 5 minutes before Skryne moved up a gear and registered 4 points without reply before hitting the net with a goal on 17 minutes to make the scoreline Meath Hill 0-02 Skryne 1-05. Meath Hill grabbed a rather fortuitous goal 2 minutes later. Skryne however, continued to dominate the half and scored a further 5 points to Meath Hill’s 1 before half time.
The second half was a tighter affair. Skryne received the news at half time that the game could not be deemed official and this was met with some disappointment. Despite this, there was no shortage of effort and spirit among the Skryne players who were first out of the traps with 2 quickfire points to stretch their lead. It was nip and tuck for the next few minutes as the 2 sides traded scores. Midway through the second half Skryne lead by 1-15 to Meath Hill’s 1-07. Meath Hill threw everything at them to try and peg back the boys in blue, scoring 4 unanswered points to narrow the gap to 4 points. Skryne weathered the storm and held out for a well deserved victory.
Skryne may not have gained any points for this victory but they walked away with their heads held high.
