The accuracy of Mark Battersby proved to be Skryne’s trump card in their win over Summerhill in Div 1 of the All County A League in Skryne today. The man of the match produced his best ever display in the blue jersey and his eleven point haul ensured victory for the home side. Scoring six points from play and five from frees he was a thorn in Summerhills side every time he got possession. Summerhill were in front for a brief spell early on after a mix up in defence resulted in an own goal but the home side quickly recovered and led by 0-12 to 1-4 at half time. Skryne were fully deserving of this lead playing with a slight breeze as they defended the road end.
They increased this lead in the second half before Summerhill produced a purple patch after 15 minuted to score 1-3 without reply from the blues. A goal from Stephen O’Brien and three points from Batts restored order and Skryne ran out easy winners over the Hill for the second time in the last three weeks following a recent success in the Feis Cup.
While there was no doubting the man of the match Skryne had other excellent performances from Ciaran Lenehan at full back plus a solid halfback line of Ronan McCabe Mark Jordan and Adam O’Sullivan. At midfield Donie Ryan won a lot of possession ably assisted and encouraged by Aidan Tuite. Upfront Mark Battersby was well supported by the O’Brien cousins Stephen and Conor.
