Skryne played a final in the U12’s Summer League against there neighbours Seneschalstown. This was the third time that Skryne had played them this year. The last time Skryne had just lost at home by a single point.
The game was played in Seneschalstown on the evening of Monday 2nd September. Skryne had two teams of 9 & 11 aside. Both games were played at the same time.
Team 1 was managed by Padraig Finnerty & Martin Browne, and consisted of :
James O Brien, Gary Browne, David Clarke, Kristoffer Kinsella, Luke Brady, Owen Conway, Billy Reilly, Niall Finnerty, Alex Grendon.
The Skryne lads got off to a great start with Luke Brady and Owen Conway playing well in Midfield. James O Brien started in goals and gave an exceptional performance with some great kick outs. It was point for point at the start of the first half. All players gave it everything. It was level at half time.
Team 2 was managed by Cormac Grendon & Declan Browne, and the line out was as follows,
Sean Keogh, Sam Hawes, David Rathbourne, Tom Ratfer, Oisin Keogh, Jack Dardis, Shane Smyth, Sean Mc Govern, James Ward, Niall Moreland, Killian Cullen.
The lads got off to a great start and Niall Moreland was the first to get Skryne on the score board. Skryne were playing against a stiff breeze. Jack Dardis & Shane Smyth covered every blade of grass in midfield & Sean Keogh was in goals for the first half and was like a full back and clearing any ball that came into him. Skryne were playing well but it was going to be a tough match. At half time Skryne were down by Six points.
Padraig & Martin’s team started the second half like they finished the first and battled hard. Gary Browne and David Clarke played well in defense with Kristoffer Kinsella sweeping everything in defence. Niall Finnerty was notching up the points and giving it everything, Alex Grendon took two good points and Skryne were playing well. It was a tough game as every-time Skryne scored Seneschalstown were always on the reply. In the end Seneschalstown won the game having notched up 5 unreplied points towards the end.
Cormac & Declan’s team kicked off their second half. It was important to get some quick scores as the two teams scores would be amalgamated. Skryne’s ‘never give up’ spirit really showed as Skryne got four quick points in the second half. With Niall Moreland notching up some points. Killian Cullen was playing well and linking up well with Sean Mc Govern. Oisin Keogh had one of his best games and fielded some great high balls in defence, Skryne pulled it back within a single point. It was a pulsating match. David Rathbourne along with Sam Hawes were out in front for every ball. James ward & Tom Rafter used their strength and every player was urging each other on. There was plenty of Skryne support urging the young guns on. In the end the Final whistle beat them as Seneschalstown won the match. It was a great game. The amount of effort and determination that went into this final was outstanding. Every player should be proud of themselves as to how well they have performed. Joe Sheridan presented Skryne with some medals and Seneschalstown spoke of the great challenges that Skryne gave them throughout the year. This was to be the last match for the U12’s as the U11’s & U13’s are due to start. We would like to thank all the parents for supporting the players during matches throughout the year.
Thanks from,
Padraig Finnerty, Cormac Grendon, Martin Browne, Declan Browne.
