Tight Contest in Tough Conditions as Skryne Take the Points

Skryne 1-09, Summerhill 1-06

LGFA League Division 2 – Round 5

Skryne ladies travelled to Summerhill on a wet and windy Friday evening for what proved to be a tough but rewarding encounter. Battling both the conditions and a strong Summerhill side, Skryne showed great grit and determination to come away with a well-earned victory.

Playing against a strong wind in the first half, Skryne found it difficult to break through a disciplined Summerhill defence. The home side took full advantage of the breeze, controlling much of the possession and converting their chances effectively. Despite Skryne’s defensive efforts, Summerhill managed to build a solid lead by half-time, going in ahead on a scoreline of 1-5 to 0-2.

However, with the wind now in their favour, Skryne emerged for the second half with renewed energy and purpose. Led by Catriona Keoghan, who scored 1-1 from midfield, Skryne began to dominate proceedings. The forwards found their rhythm, with Amy O’Dowd notching three vital points, while Ellie Murphy added two, including one from a free. Further contributions from Sara Pentony, Abbye Donnelly, and Laura Mangan kept the scoreboard ticking over.

The defence, marshalled by Colleen Jordan and anchored by the Cowley sisters, tightened up considerably in the second half, restricting Summerhill to just one point after the break. Ailish Lenahan and Aisling O’Connor were solid in the backline, breaking up attacks and launching counter-attacks that turned the tide in Skryne’s favour.

The introduction of subs Aine Keogh, Alannah Cooney, and Ruth Moore added fresh legs at key moments, helping to see out the game. With determination and clever use of the conditions, Skryne overturned the halftime deficit to seal a 1-9 to 1-6 win.
