Skryne Edge Past Ultans in Hard-Fought Encounter
An Scrín 1-11, Naomh Ultain 2-05
LGFA League Division 2 – Round 4
Skryne produced a gritty and determined performance to claim a narrow win over Ultans in a thrilling contest. With just three wides and six vital blocks over the hour, it was a disciplined and clinical display from the home side.
The game opened with high intensity, and Skryne went into the break with a slight edge, leading 1-6 to 1-4. Ellie Murphy was once again in superb form, notching 0-5, including three from placed balls, while Amy O’Dowd found the net and added a point for a strong first-half impact.
Skryne came out firing in the second half, rattling off the first four points in a dominant opening spell that pushed them ahead. However, they went scoreless between the 6th and 30th minute, allowing Ultans to claw their way back into contention.
Despite the scoring drought, Skryne’s defence stood tall. The backline put in a heroic shift, limiting Ultans to just two second-half scores—on the 14th and 25th minutes. Blocks from Niamh Cowley, Ailish Lenahan, and Catriona Keoghan were crucial in keeping the visitors at bay. Ultans kept searching for a vital goal but were denied by a brilliant double smother-tackle by Colleen Jordan and Kate Gibbons who emerged to clear the lines. Inspirational stuff for their teammates.
Then, in the dying minutes, with just a single point separating the sides, Catriona Keoghan stepped up with a stunning score to seal the game and settle the nerves. That final point proved decisive, putting daylight between the sides and confirming the win for Skryne.
