Fáilte go dtí ár gCruinniú Cinn Bhliana 2024.
2024 has been a great year for the club in so many ways. Our men’s team who have dedicated hundreds of hours to training and becoming one of the counties best were narrowly beaten in the game of the Championship semi-final to a wily Wolfe Tones team; our u19s squad has never looked healthier; our minor boys reached two finals but were unfortunately left disappointed on both occasions; the Mothers and Others team has trained regularly and injected a new element to our club; our juvenile section is performing tremendously with the training pitches packed week in and week out. Our Easter camp and cúl camps were a resounding success and this year for the first time we have held a camp dedicated to teenage girls at Halloween. Our coaches have been involved at the highest level in Meath football in Ladies, Men’s and Juvenile ages and have brought back valuable wisdom to the club.
Off the field we continue to go from strength to strength. Thanks to the tireless work of our grounds committee, we have facilities that are often complimented by visitors and a sought after venue for big games. The work continues with our main pitch resodding, a training area laid down and preliminary work already started on our new lights. Our walking track which provides a safe way to exercise for all in the community has been used by all ages. It was featured in RTE’s Operation Transformation when all the community came out to support Michelle Rogan during her challenge. Our High Kings Cycle was a massive success again and with our partners in TARA A.C. the annual 5km brought more life and more sport to Fr McManus Park. The annual Golf Classic brought the hopeful and wise back together for another great day
Our talented musicians and dancers have had great success in the Scór na nÓg competitions. Our first Pop-up Gaeltacht popped up during matches and the cúpla focail as Gaeilge is now firmly on the agenda for 2025. 14 of our teenagers have just completed The GAA and Foróige Youth Leadership Programme. More recently we have hosted comedians and politicians, all keen to soak up the goodwill and community spirit. This spirit really came together on another successful Community Field Day in September where over 1100 euro was raised for Muscular Dystrophy Ireland. This event was the perfect opportunity to unveil our Memorial Garden. After years of work by members of the executive, the loved ones of those lost too early got a chance to reflect together and were shown that their loss was shared on the shoulders of the community.
We are in great health with approx. 450 members in our club. None of this would be possible without the tireless efforts of the volunteers who are selflessly giving their time. Whether it is coaching, committee roles, grounds work or fundraising – every hour dedicated to strengthening our club and community is greatly appreciated. We are a proud rural club that can achieve at the highest levels in sport. Beyond that we are a foundation on which the community of Skryne stands. We should be ambitious and courageous in setting our goals in 2025 – because we have proven that if we want to, together, we will. An Scrín abú.
