In what can only be described as a weak display from Skryne in the B League Div 1 clash with neighbours Walterstown, two easy points were conceded to the Blacks in Walterstown on Sunday afternoon. The game was played in very blustery conditions but Walterstown made light of the conditions to score an emphatic 0 – 15 to 1 – 3 victory over their great rivals and neighbours. With the aid of the elements in the opening period, the home side had raced into a four points to nil lead by the twelfth minute. Seventeen minutes of the half had gone when full forward, Alan Carty, won a ball along the line and beat the Walterstiown defence to plant the ball in the corner on the net for Skryne’s first score. It looked then that Skryne would make a game of it but Walterstown soon countered that goal with three quick points. Cian Byrne scored a close in free on twenty six minutes to leave the half time score at 0 – 7 to 1 – 1.
At the turnaround there was great hope in the Skryne camp that something could still be gotten from this game. They were only three points adrift and now had the advantage of a strong breeze. However from the throw in the ball was won by the veteran Joey Farrelly who passed to a forward who quickly extended the lead to four points. This was stretched to five two minutes later. John Morley then found the range to pull back a point but two more for the Blacks left the score at 11 points to a goal and two points with three quarters of the game gone. Alan Carty got his second score for Skryne on forty seven minutes but the Tara men failed to register again in the match. Walterstown however pushed on with another four points to leave the final score Walterstown 0 – 15 Skryne 1 – 3.
