When you are champions everyone wants to beat you. When you are Walterstown playing neighbours, and the current champions Skryne, then there is a double reason for winning.
Skryne who have already been beaten by St. Patricks, Stamullen, have now been beaten twice and depending on further results are in big trouble in this years championship. Walterstown dominated most of this match with the exception of the first ten minutes when Skryne playing against a stiff wind, scored a goal and a point without reply. The goal came a James Hegarty lofted ball, which went straight to the back of the net. However they did not score again before the break while Walterstown making use of the strong breeze score five points, four of which came from Albin Crosbie.
Within a minute of the resumption Paddy O’Rourke used the wind very well to shoot the equalising point but Joey Farrelly, who was man of the match, hit back immediatly with a point for Walterstown to give them the lead once again. Brian Davis leveled again for Skryne on the 44th Minute but Walterstown hit the next six points between the 46th and 53rd minutes to leave the Skryne trailing at 12 points to 1 – 3. They did get the last two points from Paddy O’ Rourke and Mark Battersbie but it was goals they needed and they were unlikely to come against a very tight marking Walterstown side.
