Skryne 3 – 5
Curraha 2 – 8
Junior A Championship
With the game entering into injury time Skryne thought they had pulled of a remarkable victory in windswept Ashbourn on Sunday evening only to be cruelly denied by a last gasp goal from Curraha. Curraha rushed into an early lead with a goal within twenty seconds of the throw-in and had tagged on a further two points before John Morley registered Skryne’s first score on fourteen minutes with Conor Keogh adding another a minute later. Skryne were now growing in confidence and on nineteen minutes Sean Cassidy worked hard to prevent a ball going wide out in the right corner then rounded his man before getting close enough to drive the ball from an acute angle into the bottom left hand corner on the net.
Conor Keogh added another point but Curraha pulled two back to take the lead again. With half time approaching Johnny Quinn caught a high ball on the edge of the penalty area and as he made his way goal wards has unceremoniously dragged to the ground. The resultant penalty was neatly slotted to the net by Cian Byrne to leave the scores at the break at Skryne 2 – 3, Curraha 1 – 5.
In the blustery conditions both teams found it hard to register many scores in the third quarter. However Skryne now had a greater belief in themselves and registered a goal and goal and two points against three points for Curraha by the fifty second minute. The goal coming when a free taken by Conor Keogh went straight to the back of the net. Time was now running out for Curraha and the upped their game considerably but the introduction of a number of fresh legs from the Skryne bench steadied them considerably. However with time up on the clock Curraha strung together their best move of the game to end up with the ball in the back of the Skryne net. The game ended in a draw with the final score at Skryne 3 – 5 Curraha 2 – 8.
