GAA President, Aogan O’ Fearghail, paid his first visit to the club on Tuesday night, 1st December, 2015. The occasion was the launching of the club’s 5 Year Development Plan. The President was greeted by a Guard of Honour of underage boys and girls kitted out in their club colours of blue and white as he arrived with Chairman, Eamon Giles, and Secretary, Norbert Coyle. The President was introduced to the committee members of the club and the Ladies club. Present also were All-Ireland medal winners David Carty, Paddy Mulvaney, Colm O’Rourke, John McDermott, Trevor Giles. Unavoidably absent was Liam Hayes. Mick O’Dowd, Meath manager, took time out to be there for his club also. It was heartening to see so many former club officials present. The club was joined on the occasion by Co. Board Chairman, Conor Tormey, Secretary Francis Flynn, Mairead Delaney, Development Officers Jim Mullery and Jason Plunkett, Martin O’Halloran, PRO, John Kavanagh, Minor Board Chairman. After the club chairman gave details of the club’s plans for the future, President O’Fearghail spoke at length on many aspects of the GAA and it’s role in the community and the importance of the local club. All present were impressed by his warmth and friendliness. For his part the President was struck by the reception he received from young and old alike. Blue and white were the colours on view as both Skryne & Cavan claimed them. President O’Fearghail was presented with a beautiful cake in blue and white design with Skryne crest by Margaret Hayes to cut for those present. The President obliged by standing in for many photographs. The club is grateful to all who provided food and who served on the night. David Carty presented the President with a copy of his history of Skryne, Blue Kings of Tara. It was truly a night to remember.
