The Skryne U8 footballers had their final session over the October Bank Holiday
weekend. It has been a busy years which began back in the first week of March.
Since then the lads have had weekly training sessions. The emphasis through the
year was on enjoyment, participation and most important skills development. On
the playing front they participated in the Meath GAA Blitz Day programme which
consisted of 10 separate Blitz Days throughout the season. In addition the U8s
also played in the non-competitive Summerhill Tournament and had a number of
additional challenge games with neighbouring clubs. In October we travelled to
Kildare to play against Newbridge Sarsfields.
Great credit is due to the lads for the excellent effort they put in all year. There was
a high turnout at each training session. With a panel of 35 players we were able to
field up to three teams at each of the blitz days. Thank is due to the parents for their
support in bringing kids to training and to the games. We would also like to say a
special word of thanks to those who helped out at matches, blitz days and training
sessions through the season especially Brian Smith, John Quinn, Aidan O’Connor,
David McCarthy, Cormac Grendon, Shane Moss, John O’Brien and Patrick
Mullan. Many hands make light work and their help throughout the years is greatly
appreciated. Finally we would like to thank Hugh Mc Nelis for the many photographs
he captured through the year and his work in posting them online.
