First half goalfest sees Seneschalstown plunder a win in Skryne
Skryne 1-10, Seneschalstown 4-14
Premier Football Championship. Division 1 – Round 2.
An electric opening quarter from Seneschalstown saw them open an eleven point gap before the first half water break. This was a lead that never looked like been relinquished as Seneschalstown maintained control throughout and were full value for their victory.
The damage was done in a three minute spell in the opening quarter when Seneschalstown hit three goals in quick succession. Eddie Meade was first to find the net when he picked up a breaking ball behind the Skryne full back line after the ball had been launched into Big Joe Sheridan who lined out at full forward for Seneschalstown. Joe got a fist to the ball and it landed into Eddie Meade’s grateful arms in front of the Skryne goal. Meade made no mistake when he blasted past Des McAvinney in the Skryne goal. The second goal came a minute later, when another ball came into the Skryne penalty area. There were a few attempts to get a boot on it, but Eoin Finnegan was quickest to react and fired to the Skryne net. Skryne had barely caught their breath when the third goal came again a minute after the second. Again Seneschalstown used the high ball tactic when Johnny Gilsenan launched a ball into Joe Sheridan who was causing all sorts of problems in the Skryne full back line. Sheridan broke the ball to midfielder Padraig Finnegan who had made a surge forward. Finnegan gave Des McAvinney no chance as he rifled the ball to the back of the net. Seneschalstown had also converted four points in this quarter with Eoin Finnegan(2 pts), Edward Meade and Johnny Gilsenan all finding the target. Skryne struggled to get a foothold in the game and could only manage to convert two pointed frees from the boot of Neil Burke while also racking up four wides.
While Skryne improved in the second quarter with Jason Reddy firing over two points and Paddy Fox adding another, Seneschalstown still managed to extend their lead when they hit four points and also a fourth goal, this one, just before half time, came from the boot of Joe Sheridan who finished to the net from close range after combining with Eoin Finnegan. Half time score: Skryne 0-5, Seneschalstown 4-8.

Skryne were hoping for an early scoring burst in the second half to try and reign in the men from Yellow Furze. Jason Reddy and Paddy Fox knocked over the first two points of the half before Skryne poached a goal after Seán Keogh won a Skryne kickout and moved the ball quickly to Keith Donoghue. Donoghue raced forward at the Seneschalstown defence, before squaring the ball to Jack O’Donnell who slid the ball low underneath the advancing keeper David Gordon. Seneschalstown responded quickly with James Meade and Robert Wogan pointing for the visitors. Paddy Fox added another for Skryne after a fine Skryne move which saw the ball shifting from defence to attack via half the Skryne team before Fox sent it flying over the bar. Seneschalstown didn’t relent and bagged a further three points without a reply before the second half water break ensuring that Skryne never really ate into their lead.
The final quarter saw the teams score two points each as the game peetered out to it’s inevitable conclusion. Final score: Skryne 1-10, Seneschalstown 4-14.
