Raining goals in Kells
Gaeil Colmcille 5-10 Skryne 0-12
A League Division 1 – Round 7
Skryne made their way to Kells tonight (Wednesday) for this A League match on a dreadful evening for football. Most of the match was played in torrential rain which made things difficult for both players and spectators alike.
Apart from what fell from the sky it was also raining goals in Grangegoddin and the ‘Homeside’ helped themselves to five overall, with four of them in the first twenty minutes of the game.
Skryne started the match minus SEVEN of the players who fielded against Navan O’Mahonys in the Championship just four days ago. Add these to the five injured players and it’s easy to see that the strength of the panel was tested to its limits tonight.

Apart from that the less said about this game the better as the concession of five goals left the Blues with a mountain to climb. Ian Gillett may have been unlucky with two of them which were deflected and he could not be faulted for the others which were well worked by the ‘Gaels’. A feature of the game once again was the accuracy of Paddy O’Rourke whose ten points for Skryne were not enough to stave off a defeat on this occasion. He was the lone Skryne scorer in the first half and added two more in the second.
Skryne – Ian Gillett. Jack Dardis, Mark Harrington, James Hegarty. Niall Lenehan, Stephen O’Brien, Ronan McCabe. Colm Craigie, Michael Doherty. Jason Reddy, Mark Battersby (0-1), Paddy Fox. Niall Morley (0-1), Patrick O’Rourke (0-10), Paddy Carpenter .
